The meaning of colours and design tips for using colours effectively Our intelligently designed crown moulding is taking off like wildfire. Customers just love the ease of installation and safety features. Our crown moulding contains no formaldehyde as some other mouldings do, and it’s Class A fire rated. Contractors and decorators love it as it takes just one coat of latex paint for a smooth finish, with no nail holes to fill. One of the most frequent questions customers ask is what colour flexible LED strip should I use when I’m installing cove lighting with LEDs, or what colour should I paint my crown moulding? So let’s take a look at some basic findings of colour in the USA. Colours may have different meanings in other cultures. o Black: Black indicates authority and power. It is timeless and never goes out of fashion. It also speaks of formality as in ‘black tie’ events. Black combined with other colours can have a very strong statement. Black can fit into almost every design to add contrast and make the other colours stand out more. Any white or coloured LED lights will work well with black. o White: White reflects light. It’s another timeless choice because it is neutral and goes with everything. In advertising, white is associated with coolness, cleanliness and simplicity. When used with a design using lots of negative space it gives a very clean look to it. Keep in mind that white shows dirt and is more difficult to keep clean than other colours. Any white or coloured LED lights will work well with white. o Red: Red is an emotionally intense and stimulating colour. It is also the colour of love. A highly visible colour, red is used for stop signs, brake lights and fire equipment. Decorators say that anything red in a room should be perfect since it will definitely attract attention. Red is a good colour to use for accents that need to take notice over other colours. Choose a white or amber flexible LED strip to compliment red crown moulding. Green is the colour directly across from red on the colour wheel and will provide a nice contrast as well. o Blue: Blue causes the opposite reaction of red. It is peaceful and causes the body to produce calming chemicals. People are more productive in blue rooms even to the extent that studies show weightlifters can handle heavier weights in blue gyms. A good choice for bedrooms for its soothing effect and workplaces for productivity. Conversely, it is not a good colour choice when promoting food and cooking because blue suppresses the appetite. White, amber and green flexible LED strip work particularly well with blue crown moulding. o Green: Green symbolises nature. It’s the easiest colour on the eye. Green rooms where people relax are green for a reason. Green also has a strong emotional correspondence with safety. Also a good choice for bedrooms, sitting rooms or waiting rooms. Green can blend with just about any colour. If you are sure you want white, you have a choice of either warm white or cool white flexible LED strips. If you’re not sure, think about colour changing LED lights. With our RGB flexible LED strip, you can change the colour anytime you want to and even settle on a solid colour or shade. o Yellow: Yellow is cheerful and sunny, yet studies show people lose their tempers more often in yellow rooms and babies will cry more. It is the most difficult colour for the eye to process and can be overpowering if used too much. A white flexible LED strip used with your crown moulding may soften the punch of yellow. o Orange: Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow and is considered a tropical colour. It evokes feelings of enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination and encouragement. It brings oxygen to the brain and stimulates mental activity. Any design relating to the tropics, something fun, easy going and youthful should incorporate some type of orange into the design. A darker, richer shade of orange can be associated with autumn. White flexible LED strip will enhance the properties of orange crown moulding. Green or blue will add contrast and interest. o Brown: Brown is the colour of the earth and of so much in it like warm wood tones. Studies show that an over-use of brown can project a sad or wistful emotional state. If you’re thinking brown, think about using a faux finish to add texture and interest. Our favourite with brown crown moulding is warm white flexible LED strip. We offer samples of our crown moulding for LED lighting, so why not order a set and experiment with sample size cans of paint or faux finishes available at any paint store? Same applies to our flexible LED strip products. You can purchase small pieces of white, colour changing or solid colour flexible strip and a sample size power supply. Put the two together and you’ll be confident in your paint and lighting colour choices before you start. As always, we’re standing by to help you with your crown moulding for LED lighting and cove lighting with LEDs techniques and choices.
