Too much voltage?

I have some orange and yellow LEDs I'm going to use for a costume. Their voltage requirements are 2.0-2.2 volts. If I use rechargeable batteries to power them I can get about 2.4 volts which shouldn't be too bad. If I use regular batteries though they output 3v with 2 batteries. Is this way too much? Will they burn brighter? Will they burn out?
