Taking A Look At The Benefits Of LED Grow Lights

LED grow lights have greatly been accepted by most farmers in the urban areas. They are loved as they come with plenty of benefits.

Benefits of LED grow lights

Deliver light at targeted wavelengths: For photosynthesis to take place, plants should be exposed to the right wavelength. According to experts, plants absorb the most chlorophyll when they are exposed to red and blue colors. This is usually between 400-500 nm and 600-700 nm. Most of the lights used in farming can’t produce this type of targeted wavelengths but LEDs are able to do it. This results in plants maturing fast thus you have quicker harvest cycles.

They save energy: Lights produce higher intensity but consume less energy. According to professionals, you save up to 40% of your energy consumptions when you use LEDs. Some of the LEDs come with a dimming feature that allows you to save more power. This results to you growing your plants fast but at a low cost.

Many designs: The units come in different designs such as multiplayer vertical systems, ceiling, inter-lighting designs, and many others. The many designs give you a wide range of options to choose from.

Long lifespan: Just like any other LEDs, these units last for a long time. Experts report that the units have the ability to last for up to 50 hours without maintenance.

How to maximize the benefits of the lights

According to experts, there are a number of things that you can do to maximize the benefits of LEDs. Some of the things that you need to do include:

Be cautious of the amount of water that you use: The units don’t produce a lot of heat and light that causes evaporation. People used to use other units tend to water their plants more regularly as the other units produce a lot of heat that brings about a lot of evaporation. This isn’t the case with LEDs. Due to this, you should be cautious of the amount of water that you use on the plants. Before you water your plants first check the condition of the soil. If it still has some moisture avoid adding more water.

Pay attention to the height of the LED lights: Wrong placement of the lights would result to an awful experience. For a great experience, you should place the lights in such a way that lights allow even light distribution. The lights should also allow light to effectively penetrate into the plant canopy.
