Six Sigma Data Warehousing and Applications

The data warehousing concept is often called the powerhouse of the Six Sigma methodology as a result of its design and implementation. Warehousing is able to be implemented immediately into a company even in its early stages. It is then used to design and fine tune the framework of the company as well as the production environment.

The components within this concept are both complex and multifaceted. These components are first developed by a third party or can even be developed in house or in a joint development process. The designers of this component concentrate on several basics within data warehousing. They will focus on the functionality of the concept as well as what the business needs to accomplish with the data. However, designers do not focus on performance in these initial stages which can prove costly if they do. Designers can miss deadlines and risk having to restart the project.

There are several challenges when it comes to Six Sigma data warehouse design. These warehouses are constructed and designed so they can be updated in real time. In this modern day setting, this aspect is very important. Within warehouse design, there is the loading of information, transformations and extractions making this concept very resource consuming. Therefore, real-time updates and refreshes are difficult tasks. They can sometimes become clogged by server problems.

Another frequent challenge is the ability to quantify warehousing. Many designers encounter the inability to meet these challenges. In order to overview this issue, designers have to group trends together, as if they were all of one family.

In a way, each family belongs to a specific location. They may also belong to separate subsets. Warehousing modules are thus separated into groups or families. When one family is developed and completed, it is plugged into the main warehouse.

In order to apply this concept into Six Sigma and software development, data warehousing will have to be completed in its early stages. It will be able to help identify problems in the production phase before processes are set in stone. It will also be able to bring about positive results more often than errors within processes.

The Six Sigma data warehousing concept is made available to certified and trained staff members who lead teams in implementing these concepts. It will enable businesses to ascertain what aspects and processes hinder production efforts and inhibit profits in order to eliminate them from the business. The accuracy of these tests relates heavily on the staff of Six Sigma trained employees. It is essential for software development companies to use this methodology in assisting the development process and seeing to its completion void of errors and possible defects.

My very first job in 1990 was with the Street Lighting Division for my local power company as an Electrical Engineering Student Co-Op..... I guess you can say, in the almost 30 years of business experience, I have seen a lot of changes. However, I believe the changes we are currently witnessing now and the pace of technology advancements in the lighting industry, will be the most exciting time period yet.
