Sharp announces new TV brand “AQUOS X LED” miniLED adopted –Engadget Japanese version

The “AQUOS XLED” is a display that uses the “miniLED” to dramatically improve brightness and contrast by laying small LEDs in the backlight part of the liquid crystal at high density.

Unlike organic EL, where the pixels emit light by themselves, conventional liquid crystal displays illuminate the screen with a single backlight, so it is not suitable for partially increasing brightness or displaying jet black, but using miniLED as the backlight. By using it and controlling it integrally with the image, it is possible to express an image with a wide dynamic range like organic EL even with a liquid crystal display.

In the prototype developed by Sharp before, 8000 or more small LEDs are placed in the backlight, divided into 1000 or more areas to drive, and the LEDs in each area are turned on or off according to the image to be drawn. By finely controlling the LED, a high peak brightness of 2000 nit (cd / m2) or more and a high contrast ratio of 1,000,000: 1 or more were realized.

In addition, it is said that by converting the wavelength of the backlight light with quantum dot technology, it is possible to express a wide color gamut that is about 1.2 times that of conventional models.

In addition, the “AQUOS XLED” series will be sold with a narrow frame design and a new sound system.
