SETi and Seoul Viosys’ Violeds air disinfection system
SETi and Seoul Viosys’ bio research team built its own 120㎥ airborne disinfection laboratory to conduct experiments suitable for the size of general multi-use facilities, and implemented an optimal solution that provides high disinfection power with minimal air circulation. Considering that the contagious viruses are circulating indoors for a long time, the research team collected the airborne viruses in the 120㎥ space and irradiated them with Violeds light. As a result, viruses were disinfected by 90% in 7 minutes and 99.9% in 30 minutes. Regarding the experiment, SETi and Seoul Viosys sought advice from Professor Kun Sub Chung of Yonsei University and SSLEEC (Santa Barbara’s Solid State Lighting & Energy Electronics Center) team at UCSB University in the United States where a Nobel Prize winner is belonged.
The Violeds air disinfection solution introduced by SETi and Seoul Viosys is equipped with a Violeds module in the air purifier used in the semiconductor clean room, where absolute clean air is essential, to remove the dust and virus simultaneously. The principle is that when the HEPA filter filters the dust, Violeds disinfects the viruses collected with the dust.
The order of this air disinfection experiment was carried out as follows. After the viruses were sprayed in the form of small particles in the air, the research team turn on the air purifier unit with the Violeds disinfection module and confirmed that the virus was inactivated by more than 90%. The virus used in the experiment was PhiX-174.
“SETi expects this solution to be used as soon as possible particularly for the peaceful life of small business owners who are walking on eggshells every day. And we also hope to help people who have a difficulty in their business and daily life due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said SETi’s CEO Chae Hon Kim.
** PhiX-174
This virus has been found very similar to COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) in many respects and is being used for airborne virus testing at domestic and foreign accredited testing institutes such as Korea Testing Laboratory (KTL).
** Violeds
This clean technology disinfects bacteria and viruses only with UV LED light.
** How to experiment
After the viruses were sprayed in the form of small particles in the air, the research team ran the air circulation device equipped with the Violeds disinfection module and confirmed that the virus was inactivated by more than 90%. The virus used in the experiment was PhiX-174.
About SETi
Sensor Electronic Technology, inc. (SETi), a division of Seoul Semiconductor and Seoul Viosys, is a company based in Columbia, South Carolina, founded in 1999 by four Ph.D.s, for research and development of compound semiconductors in the United States. In 2005, SETi received the investment and R&D fund from Seoul Semiconductor and Seoul Viosys. For the development project, SETi is also working with the University of South Carolina and the University of California at Santa Barbara, adding depth to its research and development.
