Seoul Semiconductor Assures Its LED Patent in Germany

In December 2018, Seoul Semiconductor announced that it has won a patent infringement lawsuit against Mouser Electronics for selling LED products that infringe Seoul’s patent.

Everlight later responded in January 2019 that it would continue to guard its right and claim patent invalidity against Seoul Semiconductor.

However, Seoul’s latest announcement reported that the District Court of Düsseldorf in Germany issued a permanent injunction against the sales of the accused products manufactured by Everlight and ordered the distributor to recall the products sold after February 2017 from commercial customers.

According to Seoul Semiconductor, the patented technology involved in this litigation is a Multi-Wavelength Insulation Reflector technology that serves to efficiently improve light reflectivity from the internal LED structure by attaching a light reflection structure to the LED chip, which would assure durability and high efficiency of lighting significantly. It has been widely applied to most cost effective mid-power LED products, such as those used in lighting, LCD backlight, mobile phone and automotive applications, where power consumption is 0.5W to 3W (watt). The 2835 (2.8×3.5mm), 3030 (3.0×3.0mm) and 5630 (5.6×3.0mm) LED packages are universal products in the industry.
