Saving Money With LED Light Fixtures

In today's economy, people are all about saving money, especially in the long term. Light fixtures are a great place to start when looking for areas of the home to save money in. Aside from the initial purchase price of a light fixture, it costs money to provide electricity to run those fixtures through their life. Fortunately, there are a number of ways to save money, especially if you opt for LED light fixtures instead of traditional fixtures.

About LED Light Fixtures

LEDs, or light emitting diodes, can be used to replace traditional incandescent bulbs in a variety of light fixtures: under cabinet lights, lamps, ceiling fixtures and so forth. These lights can produce just as much light as a standard bulb, but require a fraction of the electricity to run; thus saving a great deal of money for you.

How LED Lights Save Money

There are a number of ways that LED light fixtures can save you money. As noted earlier, LED fixtures require less electricity than fixtures that use traditional incandescent light bulbs. This means that over the lifespan of the bulb, you will pay a fraction of the cost for running the LED bulb in comparison to an incandescent.

Secondly, though LED bulbs cost more upfront, they last significantly longer. You may end up changing an incandescent light bulb three to four times before you'll need to change an incandescent bulb for the first time. That means that all because they cost more upfront, they're even out over time due to their longer lifespan.

In fact, the average incandescent light bulb only lasts for approximately 1,200 hours. The average CFL (compact fluorescent) bulb lasts a bit longer at 8,000 hours. Meanwhile, the average lifespan of an LED bulb is 50,000 hours. That means that if you were to run light fixtures with LED bulbs for 8 hours a day, every day, 365 days a year, it would not need to be replaced for more than 15 years. In comparison, you'll need two incandescent bulbs for a single year and one CFL bulb for almost three years.

LED Holiday Lights

During the holidays, we typically have more significantly light fixtures out and turned on than we would at any other time of the year. That being said, it's important for many families to find holiday lights that do not cost as much as their traditional counterparts.

LED holiday light fixtures are a perfect solution. Did you know that a standard string of lights with 125 bulbs (at an average of 4 watts each) costs $ 25.13 to run? On the other hand, for the same length of time, LED holiday lights with 280 bulbs cost only $ 0.56 to run and only require 0.04 watts of electricity.

In short, there are tons of ways to save money by switching to LED light bulbs and LED light fixtures. They produce the same amount of light, using less than half the electricity and then cost a fraction of the price to run. Beside, who does not want to save a little bit of money?

My very first job in 1990 was with the Street Lighting Division for my local power company as an Electrical Engineering Student Co-Op..... I guess you can say, in the almost 30 years of business experience, I have seen a lot of changes. However, I believe the changes we are currently witnessing now and the pace of technology advancements in the lighting industry, will be the most exciting time period yet.
