Radiant Barrier Spray: Get NASA's Energy Saving Secret – Can Be Yours Using Just One Finger

Radiant barrier spray is one of the easiest and most common insulation methods. Although it does not provide insulation as good as spray foam, it still remains a popular choice because of ease of use. Unlike spray foam which takes up a lot of space because of its voluminous nature, radiant barrier spray is at most a very thin layer, just like paint. This property makes it an ideal insulator for attics. Another advantage of spray on radiant barrier is that you can control the thickness of the layer, and therefore its R-value, as you desire.

Do It Yourself And Save Money

Radiant barrier spray insulation is probably one of the easiest and quick do-it-yourself projects. Once you have bought the required supplies, you simply have to spray them onto the surfaces which lead to maximum heat transfer, like attic roofs, crawl spaces and exposed walls. Another reason why this type of insulation is more popular than spray foam is its price. It is much more affordable than spray foam and has an R-value only slightly less than that of foam.

You can purchase readily available do-it yourself kits which come complete with safety instructions and step by step guidance to proper insulation. If you find spraying the radiant barrier onto the roofs too difficult or strenuous, you can first spray it onto plastic sheets which can then be stapled or nailed to the roof after the spray has discharged up.

Safety Precautions

Spray on radiant barrier contains highly toxic materials so it is important to keep all your body parts safe from it. Adequate clothing, mask and gloves are a must. You should be extra careful while handling the spray while working in tight or poorly ventilated spaces like a crawl space.

Energy Savings

This space-age insulation technique reflects heat coming inside as well as outside. In cold weather it reflects the heat radiant on it from inside the house and helps keep it warm for longer. Similarly, in summer, the heat incident on the house from outside is reflected back and is not allowed to penetrate into the house. This takes some load off the air conditioning. Thus, radiant barrier spray can help you save money by reducing energy consumption all year round.
