Point Engineering Introduces Al Substrate for UV LED to Optimize UV Intensity

Point Engineering (PEC) is a UV LED package manufacturer based in South Korea who specialized in its vertical insulator aluminum metal frame for UV LED package.

According to the analysis of LEDinside, the UV LED market is expected to increase to US$ 1.224 billion in 2022, with a CAGR of 33% during 2017-2022. Apart from the steady curing market growth, surface sterilization, static water sterilization, and flowing water sterilization are the market momentums to drive the growth of UV LED during 2018 to 2022.

The development for LED chips becomes intense with continuous competition between UV LED chip manufactures. Although reflector (substrate) is one of important components for UV LED package, its development is relatively slow at the moment. Most of the UV LED producer use Al2O3 or ALN for thermal efficiency control. However, Point Engineering developed vertical insulator applied AI metal substrate which has high UV reflectance feature with optimized thermal conductivity.

The Al substrate enables thermal efficiency control, especially for UV reflectance character. PEC continues to progress its technology and developed the BR PKG which maximizes the reflectance to bring maximum UV LED intensity. In addition, cylindrical direct bonding type curved PKG (CV PKG) is also developed.

On top of the high UV reflectance character of AI, PEC applied manufacturing technology to maximize reflectance efficiency. The BR PKG provides around 10% improvement of intensity compare to UV LED packaged with Al2O3 and ALN substrate.

Recently, PEC signed a MOU with DOWA electronics to extend their UV LED business together. DOWA will offer UV LED chip to PEC and share UV LED packaging development technology and knowledge.
