Pendant Lighting Is the Most Popular Fixture in the Kitchen

Pendant lighting has taken kitchen design to the next level. The popular look has now surpassed its first trendy status and has moved into a solid kitchen design fixture. Yet, just because the look is now considered a classic kitchen accessory, it does not mean that it is boring and stayed.

This type of fixture is anything but boring and with designers rolling out multiple sizes from mini pendants to regular-sized pendants to oversized pendants, there is no excuse for someone to not be able to find the right type of look or size for their kitchen.

However, one would not be able to look through many types of pendants if it were not for the kitchen’s evolution. For the kitchen was once a room that was hidden from guests, but now it’s opened up and it has become a key place for family and friends.

His heightened visibility has caused people and design professionals to give more credence to kitchen design and this is where the pendant has been able to shine. One of the most popular trends with kitchen lighting is known as task lighting.

With task lighting, instead of making one or two fixtures do the job of many, instead multiple fixtures get placed throughout the kitchen to do certain jobs. Thus LED down-lights go under the cabinets to brighten them up. Pendants typically go over the island to focus the light there and other fixtures are places in their respective spots.

However, just because pendants are typically placed over the island that does not mean that they must live there. Pendants are the most versatile kitchen fixtures. They work in any part of the kitchen. Mini pendants look great over smaller work areas and are the trendy type of pendants.

Thus it is common for the mini pendants to say the changing trends in lighting design long before the larger-scale fixtures do. Yet, large fixtures are not uncommon as well. Some pendant fixtures are so large, that only one’s needed to give all the light that is necessary for that area.

If one wants a large pendant, he or she should know that it will be the focus of the kitchen and it should flow and complement its surroundings. Moreover, one may keenly aware of the size of their kitchen. A small kitchen with a small island looks better with no more than two pendants as opposed to three fixtures or one large fixture.

Design is all about balancing proportions and poor design selections can have adverse effects on the kitchen’s appearance. Although good design and lighting is crucial, one must not forget that the room’s main function is about working. Thus the light are strong enough to help a person work safely.

This is another reason pendants are so popular in today’s kitchen. They are able to focus light intensely to provide the person with most visibility for the job at hand. Pendants’ abilities to focus light is why many designers recommend that people use dimmer’s with them.

Dimmer’s are how people set the room’s ambiance. When cooking get finished and people want to enjoy their meals and social, one can just simply use the dimmer to change the room’s mood.

Dimmer’s are especially crucial if the pendants are clear glass. Clear glass pendants give the area with greatest light. Therefore, if the homeowner wants to tone that light down, he or she will have to enact a dimmer. Otherwise he or she will be left with a glaring light when it is in use.

Pendants are beautiful fixtures and enhance appearance of any home, but their supreme in the kitchen. Their versatility is second to none and the endless array of style options is enough to make anyone’s head spin. It is safe to say that with these benefits, pendant lighting is here to stay.

My very first job in 1990 was with the Street Lighting Division for my local power company as an Electrical Engineering Student Co-Op..... I guess you can say, in the almost 30 years of business experience, I have seen a lot of changes. However, I believe the changes we are currently witnessing now and the pace of technology advancements in the lighting industry, will be the most exciting time period yet.
