Apple has begun its development of Micro LED technology since 2014 with its acquisition of LuxVue, a startup company specializing in Micro LED based displays. Afterwards, Apple has established a factory in Taiwan and gathered professionals of the semiconductor and panel industry to focus on Micro LED display technology development. In March 2018, Bloomberg covered that Apple has moved its R&D team of Micro LED technology back to the U.S. as the progress did not meet the company’s expectation. Later in August 2018, Apple has reportedly visited AUO and Epistar in Taiwan to check their development progress for Micro LED technology and discuss their potential collaboration.
