In 2017, Taiwan-based display company, Innolux initiated the idea of “Mini LED” and showcased the 10.1 inch AM Mini LED automotive panel in 2018 CES exhibition. According to Chin-Lung Ting, Executive Vice President of Innolux, the advantage of the Mini LED display developed by Innolux was that it was driven by TFT to realize active matrix (AM). AM Mini LED offered high brightness and contrast ratio comparable with OLED and Innolux has been boosting the application of AM Mini LED.
During the shareholder meeting in June, Innolux illustrated that by the end of this year, the company expected to launch Mini LED public information display (PID) and large size TV application was estimated to release in 2Q19. As for automotive products, due to the time consuming verification process, were scheduled in 2020.
Innolux named its AM Mini LED technology “PixinLED,” and planned to turn over the panel market it Mini LED. Ting analyzed that currently OLED is popular among smartphone makers and might keep the heat for a while. However, OLED is too expensive for large size panels and Mini LED could take the advantage with its features of low cost and better performance.
Innolux also announced the appointment of the new CEO, Mr. Jin-Yang Hung, the former CEO, Mr. Zhi-Chao Wang will serve as a consultant of the company and will keep carrying the task of panel integration under Foxconn Group.
