Isreal-based Innoviz began partnership with Magna to provide LiDAR to the BMW Group in 2018 and expanded its business by opening offices in the U.S., Germany, Japan and China. The company closed its Series C funding with US$170 million in June 2019.
Pionner, who also specialized in MEMS-based LiDAR, announced its partnership with Canon in April 2019. Collaboration of the two companies aims to combine miniaturization and digital signal processing technology of Pioneer and Canon’s optical technologies for LiDAR sensor development. They planned to mass produce the result in 2020.
Another Europe-based LiDAR company, XenomatiX, reported its plan to develop LiDAR mounted in windshield with AGC, a functional glass supplier.
Solid state LiDARs are featured with smaller size and simple structure compared to mechanical LiDARs, enabling the manufacturers to integrate the sensors with other components such as light and windows. The combination can further simply the structure of autonomous vehicles in the future.
