Do LED Bulbs Really Last That Long?

Common Disbelief of LED

LED light bulbs are no doubt, longer lasting than the normal light bulbs. The average lifespan claimed is around 30,000 to 50,000 hours. However, even though these figures were actually determined by researchers, some of us still could not help but to feel skeptical about it. These are the common disbelief people may have.

First of all, the lifespan of it looks a little overrated. Secondly, it is just too good to be true for a light bulb to last that long. Thirdly, there are not any actual reports or tests to prove that the LED light bulbs will actually last that long.

Using their average lifespan as a gauge, they would probably last about 3 to 4 years. However, the LED light bulbs were only introduced 2 years ago. Therefore, there is no account that an LED light bulb actually last that long. So how do we know if their lifespan were not just a hoax?

LED Technology in Other Applications

The thing is, LED technology is not something new. The LED has already beenasted for some time. It's only in the recent years, researchers have started to use them for lighting.

In our daily life, we can actually see many gadgets that use LED. An example of a device that uses the LED would be an internet modem. LED is found in internet modems as indicator lights. Another example would be the traffic light signals. The traffic light signal consists of several tiny LED bulbs being put together for each signal.

The chances of the LED failing in these applications are slim. This is because LED is made to last, instead of just providing light. Therefore, we can expect LED light bulbs to have a similar tenacity in its lifespan.

Debut of Compact Fluorescent Lamps

There were also much disbelief when the Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL) were first introduced. People were skeptical about the CFL's lifespan. CFL have a lifespan of about 6,000 to 8,000 hours.

When it was first introduced, people were wondering if a CFL would really last that long. However, you can now find CFL being used in homes, offices, schools and shopping centers. You can see that overtime, it manages to find its place and value in the market. Today, the CFL are available and sold almost everywhere.

As for the LED, it is just the beginning. The LED lighting has just stepped into the lighting market. However, if given enough time, the LED light bulbs would be able to prove its value in the lighting industry, just like the CFL.
