With Christmas right around the corner, many of us began to deck the halls last weekend. Homes and businesses are afire with colourful light. If you’ve experienced the frustration of pulling down those boxes of lights from the attic or garage, only to find many of them broken or burned out, now is the time to consider LED light bulbs.
LED medium base bulbs are just one way to enhance your holiday decorating scheme, be it red and green, white and gold, silver and blue or some other creative combination. Coloured medium base LED bulbs to come in vibrant red, blue, green, yellow and orange. With a power consumption of only 3 watts, you can add all the colourful light you want without breaking the bank with your power bills. The low wattage also means that these are not so bright as to be gaudy. Placed in a floor can or cylinder shaped up/down wall sconces, they add just enough colour to be pleasant and festive. Some of these fixtures are designed to take candelabra bulbs for exactly that reason – lower level light output. Colored LED candelabra bulbs are hard to come by. Generally speaking, you will find only an S11, night light type which may not be large enough to produce a decent light output. Are you left in the dark with just this choice? No! Lamp base adapters make it possible to convert a candelabra socket to a medium base socket. As long as there is room in the fixture to accommodate the larger A19 LED bulbs, why not use the larger bulb with better light distribution? Ideas for where to use coloured A19 bulbs: o In floor cans placed underneath a Christmas tree. o In porch lights or outdoor wall lights (note that LED bulbs should not be installed in totally enclosed fixtures). o In wall sconces. o In recessed ceiling lights. o Strategically placed in floor or table lamps which can be seen from the outside.
