ASABE is a standards developing organization dedicated to advancing applicable engineering methods for agriculture, food and biological systems. The standard, ANSI/ASABE S642, titled “Recommended Methods for Measurement and Testing of LED Products for Plant Growth and Development,” describes the methods used for measurement and testing of LED packages, arrays, and modules; LED lamps; and any other LED optical radiation devices.
The first document in the series was released a year ago which defines and describes metrics for plant growth. The ANSI/ASABE S640 standard, titled “Quantities and Units of Electromagnetic Radiation for Plants (Photosynthetic Organisms),” sets up quantities and units of measure that are used to describe horticulture lighting. According to ASABE, the final standard will focus on performance criteria for LED systems used in horticulture.
