Airport Security Upgrades with LiDAR-based Analytics

iinside, a U.S. based software developer providing human flow intelligence for airport management, announced its partnership with Quanergy Systems, Inc., a LiDAR sensors and smart sensing solutions supplier, for offering airports advanced approach to monitor, analyses, predict and optimize passenger flows.

Using safe and invisible laser beams to detect objects and create real-time 3D images, LiDAR is widely known as a key technology for autonomous vehicles. By adopting the technology in airports, the managing operators can observe and monitor passengers in motion inside their facilities. The cooperation between iinside and Quanergy integrates LiDAR technology and smart motion analytics, enabling airports to use fewer sensors but receive more accurate information to improve passenger experiences and airport efficiencies.

According to Sam Kamel, President and CEO of iinside, it is more precise and discreet to monitor passenger traffic at airports with LiDAR-based technology compared to video technology. He said, “With LiDAR, we can observe 100 percent of passenger flows while fully protecting identities as the system converts position information to anonymous 3D point cloud data. We’re proud to be safeguarding passenger identities while providing the most precise and smartest solution for airports on the market.”
