Illuminating the exterior of a building requires more than just a common light. Something much more powerful is needed if it is to be done effectively and flood lighting has long been seen as the only way to do so. But within this category are a range of issues that business and residential property owners alike must consider before purchasing the relevant system, not least amongst them being the type of lamp that they use.
Choosing the right lamp is not as simple as one would expect, and when it comes to outdoor lighting systems, it can be even harder. For example, cost efficient fluorescent lighting can be used outside but is unstable of illuminating large areas. Instead, they are used to light at close quarters small work areas or open shelters. The quality of light may be high and the consumption of energy and costs may both be low, but they have very limited effectiveness.
When it comes to lighting pathways or driveways, then bollard lights are proven to be among the most effective, as well as the most popular. In fact, many systems are connected by cabling from one mains power supply, but there are also mobile bollards that operate independently, allowing them to be moved to any place that the owner decides.
Their power source can be batteries or solar power, but the versatility of such designs makes them popular for those interested in promoting nature walks in the grounds of a hotel or country house, sometimes.
However, neither of these outdoor options provides the kind of illumination necessary for lighting up a building for aesthetic reasons, or a complex for security reasons. These two purposes may be at opposite ends of the issues table, but both are very relevant. If you take the needs of a factory complex and a country hotel as examples, then the aesthetic aspect is clearly more relevant to the hotel than the factory. Whereas, the security issue is more relevant to the factory complex, where no one should be walking around at night.
The purpose may be different but the need for effective and cost efficient illumination is the same. The question is which type of flood light lamp should be used. There are a number of options, with compact fluorescent lamps, led lamps, incandescent lamps and halogen lamps all there to choose.
Compact fluorescent lamps, for example, are much more efficient than incandescent lamps and are basically the same lights that we use indoors. While the fluorescent option usually comes with stronger light than incandescent bulbs, their power is not enough to light anything more than a small back yard. Led, or light emitting diode, lights are very efficient as they consume very little energy yet give strong light, but a similar problem exists in their ability to light up a complex.
These options work well when a small area needs to be illuminated, or an individual feature such as a small fountain or statue or sometimes an impressive tree in the middle of a garden. However, something more fundamental is needed when lighting a building, such as a hotel.
This is chiefly where halogen lights win over their rivals, with a very bright light beaming onto whatever area the light is focused on. The wattage can be intensive, with as high as 500w available, but these are completely unnecessary. When it comes to a building, 150w bulbs are capable of doing the desire job.
However, it is the efficiency of halogen flood lighting that makes all the difference. Its performance is great but its life is also longer than the regular incandescent lamps, extending its cost efficiency over a significant life span. It is also possible to use colored bulbs, should such an effect be required. For example, hotels have been known to make use of softer, warmer hues to provide approaching guests with a feeling of comfort.
While fluorescent lighting can certainly be used to light small spaces, there is no getting away from the efficiency and lighting ability of the halogen lamps that are available. Of course, as route guides, bollard lights need only to emit a small amount light, and the specific purpose of the flood light is always key, but halogen lights are a tested and trusted option.
