Velodyne LiDAR Illustrates How Road Safety Can be Improved with Autonomous Cars

Velodyne LiDAR, the world leader in 3D real-time perception systems for autonomous vehicles, has been working on promoting the safety of autonomous cars. The company will hold the World Safety Summit on Autonomous Technology to address safety issues and public concern regarding autonomous vehicles in Santa Clara, California, on October 18th. In addition, it has partnered with non-profit organization Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to create an educational website providing information about how autonomous vehicles can help to prevent roadway collisions.

According to Velodyne LiDAR, by holding a summit to discuss autonomous technologies, it aims to increase understanding of the safety benefits that can be achieved with autonomous vehicles. The summit will cover discussions to explore ways to educate the public about autonomous technology to boost knowledge, address concerns and clarify issues.

“This first-ever World Safety Summit on Autonomous Technology provides participants with a forum for frank discussions about the direction of autonomous vehicles. It will also spark collaborative work that increases consumer awareness around how AV will revolutionize transportation,” said, Marta Hall, president and CBDO, Velodyne LiDAR.

Meanwhile, with the collaboration with MADD, Velodyne LiDAR has launched a website to explain the basics of autonomous driving and present how self-driving cars equipped with LiDAR technology can help to avoid accident caused by human errors.

“It’s time fully autonomous vehicles became the answer to reducing, preventing, and potentially entirely eliminating human error on the roadway. And it’s essential that the public is aware and educated about technology as a solution to the problem,” stated Sally Frykman, Velodyne LiDAR’s Director of Education and Business Development.
