Tips to Fix a Motion Sensor Floodlight

A motion sensor flood lights are normally used to less the chances of robbery in the home. The best thing a robber need is to have a dark place outside the house. The best thing about these motion floodlights is that they detect the darkness and automatically turned on. These lights have some special photocell that are so designed that they turned the light off during the daytime in order to save the electricity. Not all but few motion sensor floodlights have adjustable timer in them that allows you to set the activation time for the lights to turn on.

Motion sensor floodlights are quite affordable and you can have it for $ 40 from any local home improvement store. Always choose a floodlight that matches to your existing flood light style. Following are the given few easy steps to fix a motion sensor flood light.

Steps

Before starting installing a motion sensor floodlight, make sure that you have switched off the power source on the wall outlet.

Now take a screwdriver and remove the mounting bracket of the existing floodlight. You are now ready to install the new bracket for new floodlight. Take a drill machine and drill holes for the wall plugs and screws. Keep the new bracket on the place and screw it with the help of plastic wall plugs and screws. Make sure that the new bracket is properly fixed.

Remove the cover of the wiring box on pressure box and also remove the screws on the waterproof cable gland.

Removing the cover of the wiring box and screws on the waterproof cable gland allow you to route the power cable through the cable gland and pressure block. To make sure that the gasket is properly fitted, you have to remove the insulation part of the power cable. It is normally 6 to 8mm thick. Once you have stripped of the insulation from the cable, connect the brown wire (live wire) to the L terminal block and the blue wire (neutral wire) to the N terminal block.

Now, use the pressure block to fit the power cord with 2 screws. Tighten the cable gland, before replacing the cover of the wiring box. You are now ready to install the new floodlight to the bracket. During the installation of floodlight, you have to be careful that cable should not come in contact with flood light. You can use clips to secure the cable to the wall away from floodlight.

Points to Remember

  • Do not forget to turn off the power switch before working on the brackets.
  • Avoid installing light in the rainy days.
  • Always install a suitable circuit breaker with the new floodlight.
  • Keep yourself within a distance of 80cm from the floodlight.
  • Make sure that the flood light head and motion sensor is firmly mounted at the base.
