Sensing Elements Boost Wearable Devices and Automotive Applications

Automobile manufacturers have implemented optical sensors on vehicles and boosted the demands of sensors in recent years. Currently each vehicle is installed with four to five set sensing elements. It is forecasted that the number will keep growing and by 2020, every single vehicle might be installed with up to 10 sensing elements. Another major market for sensor applications is wearable devices. The market expansion of wearable devices will increase the needs of photodiode by four-fivefold.

With the heat brought by wearable devices, Taiwanese LED chip manufacturer Tyntek Corporation expects the sensor will bring up the company’s revenue by over 60 percent with the capacities of its newly built factory. Tyntek reported that they have been processing sampling and verification for its clients and scheduled the new factory to start manufacturing in September. The company foresees the new capacity will increase the total production of sensors by 87.5 percent and contribute more significantly next year.

Opto Tech also targets the market of wearable devices and automobile. As the markets expand, the company has reached its full capacity and decided to enhance its capacity by 20 percent. The new capacity is expected to produce in Q3 and will raise up the revenue of sensors to around 50 percent.
