In general, there are two kinds of signs. There is the most common that receives illumination from the outside and the other will get its illumination from the inside. Let’s start with the kind that would receive illumination from the outside. This kind of sign might range in size from a small poster board sign all the way up to something the size of a billboard. It might be a one-sided sign or a two-sided sign. Using LED billboard lights to illuminate the surface of a sign is both simple and economically smart. LED sign light suppliers are aware of this and will quickly show the power savings on the customer’s utility bill. What they may not show the customer is the reduced cost of maintenance of using LED billboard lights that should need little or no attention for at least 5-10 years, as opposed to conventional halogen or other filament based lighting. These can be either formed letters, referred to as channel letters, or flat faced signs produced with a translucent material. These kinds of signs are well suited for LED modules for channel letters. The modules are waterproof, low voltage and can easily bend or turn through channels to follow the various curves and angle of the letters. LED modules for channel letters can also be used around the perimeter of flat faced signs, pointing inward. This is referred to as backlighting. And as above, we offer helpful design instructions for your channel letter LED modules. Although a sign with coloured elements, graphics or letters would appear brightest with white LED modules, if desired, we offer RGB LED sign modules as well. Used with a colour controller, RGB signs give the owner the opportunity to change the colour of the sign when desired without changing the modules or create an attention-getting effect by using one of the motion options an RGB colour controller provides.
