Using Lamp base Reducers and Enlargers to adapt your light fixtures and ceiling fans to take different types of LED Light Bulbs As LED light bulbs continue to get more efficient, brighter, and feature rich, the time is ripe to begin tossing you’re remaining incandescent and old fluorescent bulbs one room or one fixture type at a time. Some communities and light fixture manufacturers made a rush to judgment several years ago, assuming that LED light bulbs would never be as bright as a compact fluorescent or give a comparable 300 degrees light output. As a result, many ceiling fan light kits and vanity light strips, in particular, came equipped with a compact fluorescent with a GU-24 base. They figured if an incandescent bulb wasn’t available in such a base, the consumer would be forced to continue to use the more energy efficient lamp. Their thinking was admirable to some degree. After all, many of us came kicking and screaming into the age of strict conservation. However, compact fluorescents did then, and do today, have their limitations. They do not dim well if at all, and there are still those pesky disposal problems due to mercury content. Solution?
The gu24 LED A19. This LED bulb has the shape of a traditional A lamp with a base that fits right into a gu24 compact fluorescent socket. Another tool in your retrofitting tool box is the lamp base adapter. These base enlargers and reducers have been around for a long time. They are particularly helpful in fitting the led light bulb with the optimal performance into your existing fixtures and fans. Let’s look at them by type: o Candelabra to medium base enlarger: Medium base LED bulbs are typically brighter than LED candelabra bulbs. As long as you have room to accommodate a larger bulb, this is an excellent option for you. o Intermediate to Candelabra base reducer: Not many household light fixtures take an intermediate base lamp. However, many of our customers have found this adapter quite useful in retrofitting a LED torpedo candelabra bulb into an Exit sign with a medium base tube-shaped lamp. o Medium to Candelabra base reducer: There may well be light fixtures in your home with medium base sockets that you use for accent lighting purposes only. Although most LED light bulbs are dimmable, sometimes using a candelabra base LED bulb not only adds elegance to the appearance of your lighting but will save energy as well. o Mogul to Medium Base reducer: Except for larger, commercial applications, a mogul base LED bulb is hard to find. Many torchiere lamps have this large base. Today’s LED A19 lamps are as bright as 150W incandescent. This is plenty of light output for most household applications.
