UV stands for ultra-violet, and although various shades of purple are pleasant to look at and quite popular, UV LED flashlights are by no means toys. It is highly advisable even for seasoned professionals to use yellow or orange goggles specifically designed to protect the eye. When used properly, UV LED flashlights are an invaluable tool suitable for many uses. LEDs last longer than other light sources, generate little or no heat, and are virtually unbreakable. Because LED’s have a nominal power draw, batteries last much longer and light output stays strong for a longer period of time. This is what makes UV LEDs the ideal choice for professionals who use their UV LED products frequently and sometimes even heavily. The UV LEDs in our flashlight have a wavelength range from 365nM to 395nM. The wavelength you will want to select will depend on the task at hand. Refer to our UV application matrix as a handy reference guide. For your convenience we have UV LED flashlights at both end of the spectrum. In stock: The XELED HE1UV-395 – A 395nM UV LED flashlight. This one performs very well for biologists using Visible Implant Elastomer Tags, inspection of UV enhanced bonding agents in PVC piping and so forth, automotive AC leak detection (with appropriate tracer dyes). It’s deep, custom reflector maximizes beam performance. 395nM UV lights are also good for fingerprints dusted with Redwop. 395nM is ideal for scorpion hunting and carpet cleaners. The Stylus UV – A 365nM UV LED flashlight. These LED pen flashlights fit easily in a pocket so are handy for those who frequently use their UV lights. Good for detection of fraudulent documents. The pen flashlight style is easy to keep at check-out counters for counterfeit bill detection or at an entrance of a club or park where hands are stamped for access. The NightCom UV – These UV LED flashlights contain a combination of 390nM and 365nM UV LEDs plus a super bright white C4 power LED with a piercing hot spot for distance. This dual combination UV LED flashlight was developed specifically for viewing difficult to discern markings on drivers licenses. It’s also great for detection of fraudulent documents, forensic investigations or detecting engine and HVAC leaks. 365nM Crime Scene Kit: This 365nM UV LED flashlight comes in a sturdy kit complete with the flashlight, batteries and protective goggles. Recharging options are available as well. The powerful UV emitter can handle a multitude of tasks from NDT inspections to fingerprints to currency and document inspections. At a crime scene, fast and accurate detection of possible evidence is of vital importance. Many bodily fluids are fluorescent in nature. When such traces are illuminated with light of the right wavelength they fluoresce and are detectable to the investigator. Deciding what light source to use at a crime scene is an art. Mr. Ron Smith, a former investigator, has recently joined our team of LED professionals. He fully understands the needs of crime scene investigators. Nevertheless, no two crime scenes are alike and no two crime scene investigators will use the same tools. It is by no means an exact science. Ron will be able to assist in the making of custom crime scene investigation kits suited to your individual needs or the needs of your department. Questions? Reach Ron Monday through Friday 9 AM to 4 PM at 775-841-4490 or use our ‘call me back’ form with the best time for him to reach you. We’ strive to meet all of your professional LED lighting needs.
