Blog – New LED Lights

No need to remove your existing recessed light fixtures. Easily retrofit them with adjustable LED downlights or standard LED downlights in the size and colour temperature you want for the area. Oh, Baby, It’s Cold Outside! 🙂 If you’re one of the lucky ones who has experienced 2 or more feet of snow recently, you may be spending a bit of time indoors this month stoking the fire and noticing a few things here and there around the home that could use a little updating. Those baseboards could probably use a little touch-up paint and maybe you’ve freshened the bathroom and bedrooms with new towels and linens thanks to the January white sales. There may be two important places you haven’t actually looked at when considering updates. 1. Your electric bill and 2. Look up! What do you see? Tired, old, shallow recessed cans with 75-watt energy-gobbling incandescent reflector lamps? Maybe those lamps are even peeking out beyond the plane of the ceiling? Yuck … I get a kick out of the commercial for Febreze where the car turns into a big shaggy dog. Just as we become nose blind to odours around the home and in our vehicles, we become blind to our lighting eyesores. Those recessed can have been in the kitchen since you bought the home 15 years ago. So has that ugly round thing in the middle of your infrequently used spare bedroom you refer to as the ceiling light. We can also become ‘expense blind’. We get so used to paying the utility bills, we can begin to think they are a fact of life and resign ourselves to putting that money in our budgets month after month. Has it occurred to you that you can work on reducing that cost on a permanent basis? It’s never been easier and more economical to update those standard light fixtures. One of the smartest LED lights to come along in a long time is the recessed can retrofit. You have your choice of a fully adjustable downlight as shown on the left or a standard downlight. The adjustable LED downlight is perfect when you find that your recessed light fixture has been installed in an awkward place. That’s not where your favourite reading chair is and that’s not where your new breakfast bar is. Voila! Just aim the light where you need it. They are also excellent for highlighting art or other featured objects in a room and can be used in sloped ceilings. Notice how the LED array in the standard LED downlight fills up the entire can. There is no space to collect dust or gobble up usable light. All you get is smooth, even, glare-free light.
